Excerpt from Some Austral-African Notes and Anecdotes
Once more I try my fortune, and in this venture an attempt has been made to supplement and connect former books on West Africa, though I have gone somewhat further afield also.
I intended originally to te-write the notes which form the first three chapters of this book, but, on second thoughts, it seemed that the greater part of whatever interest was attached to them lay in the fact that they were jotted down at the time, and on the spot, so I have left them mainly in the form in which I have them in an old note-book.
