Excerpt from Elements of Infinitesimal Calculus
The present treatise, as its title points out, has been based on the principles of the infinitesimal method. I think that this method, besides being the simplest of all for teaching Calculus, as all admit, is also the most consistent and philoso phical. Some modern writers, indeed, have tried to discredit it but, when we examine their reason ings, we soon discover that they have done so be cause they have failed to grasp the true nature of infinitesimal quantities. This I have endeavored to show in my introduction to this work, where the reader will find not only what I believe to be the exact notion of the infinitesimal, but also a hint at the grounds (elsewhere developed) upon which the infinitesimal method rests its claim to be pre ferred to its fashionable rival, the method of limits.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a comprehensive guide to differential and integral calculus, especially for young people, using the infinitesimal method. The author seeks to demonstrate that this method is not only simpler but also more consistent and philosophical than its fashionable rival, the method of limits. Readers are also provided with a sufficient number of geometrical and mechanical problems, together with fundamental notions of rational mechanics, which will serve as an introduction to the study of the latter science. Through this meticulous approach, the book offers a solid foundation for understanding the interrelation between mathematics and the continuous developments in the physical world around us.
