Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book chronicles the experiences of a man who spent eleven years as an employee of the Hudson's Bay Company. Situated on the coast of the Hudson Bay, the Company, a fur-trading enterprise, was notorious for its mistreatment of the land, Indigenous population, and even its own laborers. During his time there, the author traveled extensively, fought the bitter colds, and witnessed the tragic consequences of the Company's mismanagement. The book presents a scathing critique of the Hudson's Bay Companyâs predatory trade practices that decimated animal populations, impoverished the Indigenous people, and left the laborers demoralized. However, this text is more than just an exposà of the company's misdeeds. It also offers a captivating account of the geography, climate, and inhabitants of this unforgiving region. The author describes in vivid detail the resilience of the Indigenous peoples, their customs, and their struggle to survive in the face of adversity. He also provides a wealth of historical information, situating the Hudson's Bay Company within the broader context of European colonialism and the fur trade. Through the author's keen observations and firsthand accounts, this book sheds light on the complex relationship between humans and the natural world, the devastating consequences of greed, and the enduring strength of those who have been marginalized and exploited. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
