En ces derniers temps, M. Chapuis s'était un peu retiré dans la solitude, et il ne montrait plus guère sa collection; mais il s'occupait toujours de la maintenir en bon état, et il y ajoutait même parfois des trouvailles, qui auront tout le mérite de la nouveau té.
Le nombre considérable des tableaux délaissés par M. Cha puis nous a contraint, pour ne pas retarder davantage la publication de ce catalogue, à ne décrire que sommairement la plupart de ces oeuvres. Nous nous réservons de faire paraître ultérieurement une notice supplémentaire de celles qui n'ont pu trouver place ici.
