Synopsis

Excerpt from On the Forms of Algebraic Plane Curves Whose Equations Are Trinomial

Where a and b are real numbers. Such a transformation consists mere ly in stretching the plane of the figure in directions parallel to the x and parallel to the y axis. Two curves will also be consid~ cred as having the same form if the equation of one can be obtained from the equation of the other by first making the equations homo geneous by the introduction of a new variable z and then interchang ing the variables x, y and z. Two curves whose equations can be made identical in this manner can be transformed into each other by a real projective transformation.
