This book is intended for students in the second year of the high school. It is not a full treatise on composition, nor a complete rhetoric. It includes as many and as much of the principles of these two sub jects as a second-year student may reasonably be expected to master. There is therefore no attempt to spread these few pages over the whole field of Eng lish writing: attention is rather directed to a few questions, treated fundamentally and thoroughly.
