Québec n'est pas fortifié régulièrement, mais on tra vaille depuis longtemps à en faire une bonne place. Cette ville n'est pas même facile à prendre dans l'état où elle est. Le port est flanqué de deux bastions qui, dans les grandes marées, sont presque à fleur d'eau, c'est - à-dire qu'ils sont élevés de 25 pieds de terre, car la marée, dans les Equinoxes, monte à cette hauteur.
