Québec n'est pas fortifié régulièrement, mais on tra vaille depuis longtemps à en faire une bonne place. Cette ville n'est pas même facile à prendre dans l'état où elle est. Le port est flanqué de deux bastions qui, dans les grandes marées, sont presque à fleur d'eau, c'est - à-dire qu'ils sont élevés de 25 pieds de terre, car la marée, dans les Equinoxes, monte à cette hauteur. Un peu au - dessus du bastion de la droite on en a fait un demi, lequel est pris dans le rocher, et plus haut, à côté de la galerie du fort, il y a 25 pièces de canon en batterie. Un petit fort carré, qu'on nomme la Cita' delle, est encore arr - dessus, et les chemins, pour aller d'une fortification à l'autre, sont extrêmement roides. A la gauche de la rade, jusqu'à la rivière Saint - Charles, il y a de bonnes batteries de canon et quelques mortiers.
