Excerpt from A Text-Book of Psychology, Vol. 1
The present work has been written to take the place of my Outline of Psye/zology. The Outline, which was stereo typed in 1896, had long passed beyond the possibility of revision, and the continued demand for it showed that there was still room in the science for a text-book which set experimental methods and experimental results in the forefront of discussion. I should have preferred, however ungratefully, to let the book die its natural death; for I feared that it would be impossible to recover the freshness and vigour of the first writing, and I knew that another issue would lay an oppressive tax upon future time and energy. But colleagues and pupils and publisher were insistent, and I finally decided to rewrite. This Part I. Contains, approximately, half of the new work; Part II. Will appear, I hope, in 1910. In the meantime, the last edition of the Outline will be kept upon the market: as soon as the Text-book is complete, it will be withdrawn.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fascinating world of human consciousness, offering a comprehensive exploration of the subject matter, methods, and the profound problems it poses. The author provides a unique perspective, viewing consciousness not as an isolated phenomenon but as an integral aspect of our existence, deeply intertwined with our physical and social selves. Beyond defining the field of psychology, the book examines the relationship between mind and body, challenging traditional notions and presenting a compelling case for psychophysical parallelism. The author argues that mental processes and physical events are parallel manifestations of the same underlying reality. This book is not just an academic treatise; it's an invitation to explore the depths of our own minds. Through insightful analysis and thought-provoking examples, the author sheds light on the complexities of consciousness, from the simplest sensations to the most profound emotions. The book's insights challenge our assumptions and encourage a deeper understanding of the human experience. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
