Synopsis
The theme of bereavement has a particular resonance for Easington Colliery. One day in May 1951, just as the night shift was leaving and the early morning shift arriving, there was a large underground explosion. Families and friends gathered at the pit gates, and gradually the news emerged that eighty-one miners and two rescue workers had died. The last body was not brought out for over a fortnight.

About the Author
Tom Wright is Research Professor Emeritus of New Testament and Early Christianity at the University of St Andrews and Senior Research Fellow at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. He is the author of more than 90 influential books, including The New Testament for Everyone, Simply Christian, Surprised by Hope, The Day the Revolution Began, Paul: A biography, Into the Heart of Romans and God's Homecoming (all published by SPCK).
