Synopsis

The origin of the Prymer lies in the monasteries of the 9th and 10th centuries, as a canon of prayers additional to the daily prescribed prayer. They came to be used by lay people for private prayer and for teaching the young to read. The Prymer falls in two parts - prayers and readings for daily devotion (the daily prayer of medieval spirituality) and prayers in time of grief (the Office for the Dead). This book is a daily office of 30 days, with additional prayers for Advent and Lent, which could be used for daily prayer throughout the year.
