Human Resource Management: A Concise Analysis

Eugene McKenna and Nic Beech

3rd edition

Human Resource Management offers a concise yet critical introduction to the subject, ideal for MBA and Master’s students, as well as advanced undergraduates and executives looking to get a stimulating insight into HRM. It explores the relationship between HRM and organisational performance, clearly conveying the theoretical and applied aspects of the subject without the bulk that fills out many other HRM texts.

‘This book offers a succinct, accessible and well balanced treatment of the core HR concepts and contemporary HR issues.  The breadth of coverage and rich case study material make this book the perfect starting point for readers wanting to get a meaningful overview of HRM.’ Professor Cliff Oswick, Deputy Dean, Cass Business School, City University London

‘Clear, comprehensive, comprehensible and packed with case studies, this excellent book introduces, explores and critiques current thinking on Human Resource Management. It will be useful for teaching students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.’ Professor Rick Delbridge, Professor of Organizational Analysis and Dean of Research, Innovation & Enterprise, Cardiff University

‘McKenna and Beech provide a concise, easy-to-read analysis of HRM theory. The dilemmas and implications for the HR professional flowing from this theory are then excellently brought to life through an extensive array of contemporary case studies, practical examples and questions, which I will draw upon time and time again.’

Dr Jonathan Smith, Chartered FCIPD, Fellow of Leadership Trust. Senior Lecturer in HRM at the Lord Ashcroft International Business School

‘McKenna and Beech explain that their aim is to conduct an analysis of HRM in a concise and accessible way. In my opinion that is exactly what they have done. Their style is easy to read and combines a good narrative flow with accurate placing of the concepts and a clear explanation of their significance.’ Dr Julian A. Randall, Senior Lecturer, University of Aberdeen Business School
