9780273714293: Financial Accounting: A Practical Introduction

Synopsis

Discussing the theory and the application of accounting methods in isolation does not enable the learner to fully understand the material and the key techniques, and get the practice required. This text is an effort to “put a face” on this problem. Learning financial accounting is like learning a different language and as such, lots of practice is required. Financial accounting is not particularly a popular subject among first year students. Students usually find the first year introductory financial accounting module quite challenging and demanding. Many lecturers are consistently asked to provide more questions and exercises. Attempting a large number of accounting questions provides students with the necessary self-assurance and familiarity required to deal with more difficult aspects of financial accounting.

From the Back Cover

Financial Accounting: a Practical Introduction addresses what is a perceived lack of coverage in current texts: the shortage of a comprehensive number of practical examples and exercises together with fully worked answers to support and explain fundamental aspects of financial accounting. In addition, the book provides brief notes at the beginning of each charter which are designed to refresh students’ memory and understanding of the key points in each topic area of financial accounting.

If you are looking for the fun and challenge of self-practicing, self-testing, or preparing for a financial accounting examination, then this book is designed to help you. You can check your own standard, monitor your progress, and revise the key topics in your financial accounting studies. Systematically assessing and revising the knowledge gained in the subject matter is an important and critical step in an understanding of financial accounting, and this book is key to accomplishing this. Most importantly, it can be used to explicitly guide you in your study and to assist in judging your learning strengths and weaknesses.

    • encourages students to learn and fulfil the learning objectives of the financial accounting subject;

    • aids learners to obtain the necessary confidence to tackle financial accounting issues and advanced exercises;
