Synopsis

Part One of this text explains the key elements of the Children Act which came into force on October 14 1991. The book covers all aspects of child care and has over 20 childcare course assignments. The care of children from 1992 is contrasted with care of children in 1892 under the following headings: Children away from home; Children with a disability; Children and parents in changing families; Child development through health and education; Children in need of support and children at risk of harm. In Part Two, six detailed case studies offer a problem solving approach to the needs of individual children and their families. Each case study raises issues in Child Care which demonstrate the key concepts and provisions of the Children Act. They are also a point of reference for the twenty five assignments which make up the third and final part of this comprehensive text. The book is suitable for students on the following schemes: City and Guilds Community Care, City and Guilds Family and Community Care, City and Guilds Caring for Children, BTEC First Certificate and BTEC First Diploma. It is also suitable for elements of the BTEC National Scheme.
