Synopsis
Distribution and logistics managers are continually being asked qustions such as - could costs be reduced and/or service improved by having a different number of depots, having depots in different locations, changing to a different method of distribution, or by redeploying stocks? Would it be advantageous to subcontract some or all of our distribution to third parties? In order to answer these and similar questions, a manager must understand both the practicalities of the situation and also the underlying principles or "models". "Logistics Modelling" adopts a practical perspective in considering these issues. Its approach should be appreciated by the busy manager or student, and it does not assume a high level understanding of mathematics. It is aimed at middle and senior logistics and distribution management in manufacturing in the UK and Europe. Also postgraduate students of logistics and distribution management, students on business studies and MBA courses and those studying for professional qualifications of the Institute of Logistics and Distribution Management and Institute of Purchasing and Supply.
