Excerpt from Die Theorie der Wasserturbinen: Ein Kurzes Lehrbuch
Aktionsturbinen spreche ich von Turbinen mit gestautem Durchfluß und von solchen mit staufreiem Durchfluß oder abgekürzt von Stauturbinen und von staufreien Turbinen. Es sei mir ein Wort zur Rechtfertigung gestattet. Ein Gegensatz zwischen Reaktion und Aktion besteht im Grunde gar nicht.. In beiden Fällen hat man es mit der Rückwirkung des abgelenkten Wasserstromes gegen die ablenkenden Schaufeln zu tun; es findet denn auch diese Rück wirkung in beiden Fällen genau denselben analytischen Ausdruck. Wenn die beiden Namen aber genau genommen dasselbe besagen, so sind sie ungeeignet, die bestehenden Gegensatze zwischen den beiden Turbinenformen zu bezeichnen. Diese Gegensatze werden durch die Formeln p, 192 und p, p., ausgedrückt, und die neuen Bezeichnungen sind nichts anderes als Übersetzungen dieser Formeln in die Umgangssprache. Die alten Bezeichnungen sind wie geschaffen, um schwere Verwirrung in den Köpfen der Anfanger hervorzurufen, und je eher man sie durch wirklich zutreffende ersetzt, desto besser ist es.
