Les Kalmouks sont d'un ca ractère pacifique. Ils se livrent à l'agriculture et à l'en tretien d'innombrables troupeaux. Depuis la grande émigration de 1771, leurs privilèges ont été réduits et leur humeur indépendante fixée.
