Fixed oils are sometimes useful as media for the examination of'such objects as 'would be soluble in water for other ﬂuids, such as aleurone, etc. Any good, clean oil will answer, though sweet oil, being generally at hand, will be'the mostxconvenient. As other oils are soluble in it, it causes a Clearing-up of oily tissues, thereby rendermg the more solid cell-contents much' more distinct.
