Excerpt from Biennial Report of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction of the State of Arkansas for the Years 1885 and 1886
Ing the results the state has a right to expect from the amount of money expended. Then who is responsible and wherein lies the remedy? The remedy is partly in county supervision, changing the present district system, needed legislation on text books, longer school terms, better teachers and better houses. You are respectfully referred to these subjects in another part of this report, where they are presented briefly, as they were fully presented in the report of 1883 and 1884.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, written in 1886, provides an in-depth look at the state of public education in Arkansas. Noting clear progress in both the number of students enrolled and the funds available, it examines areas where further improvement was needed, including insufficient teacher training and supervision, along with ineffective textbooks and weak school board management. The author highlights the need for a systemic approach to education reform, with particular emphasis on investment in county superintendents, as well as the consolidation of small school districts, the establishment of a State Board of Education, and the implementation of more rigorous teacher licensure standards. Though written over a century ago, the insights this book offers on the challenges facing public education continue to resonate today.
