Synopsis

Excerpt from History of Assurbanipal, Translated From the Cuneiform Inscriptions

The two books which I have most used in my translation are the Assyrian Dictionary of my friend Mr. E. Norris, and Fuerst's Hebrew and Chaldee Lexicon. I differ in opinion from Mr. Norris as to the meaning of several Assyrian words; but the numerous examples and comparisons given in his, Dictionary make it a most valuable aid to Assyrian scholars. The printing of the present work has occupied about twelve months. It has been in the hands of Mssrs. Harrison and' Sons, who have spared ho expense to make it perfect and for its progress I am much indebted r to Mr. John Mabey, the compositor, who has so much skill in setting - up the Cuneiform types.
