Excerpt from Der Prozess, Und, Einer Muss Heiraten
Ciation of America calls attention in its report to the difficulty of finding good short comedies in German suitable for elementary reading; it also recommends several, among which are the two here presented. While they belong to a period in which the playwright relied more upon a tradi tional stock of ludicrous stage situations than upon the in trinsic humor of the subject or its treatment, they are, nevertheless, amusing reading, replete with fun and spright liness. The first appeals more particularly to boys, while the second is, perhaps, better appreciated by girls. The vocabulary is complete, rendering colloquialisms and, occa sionally, slang in kind. The teacher will find the exercises for re-translation helpful.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the lives of two brothers as they grapple with their resistance to a structured family life. Bound to tradition and long-standing family habits, the elder brother attempts to convince the younger to marry, but he himself resists the idea at all costs. Their increasingly desperate situation leads them to an agreement: a lottery will determine which brother must succumb to marriage. The lottery itself represents the clash between tradition and personal choice, and the brothers' struggle exposes the deeper societal pressures that often influence our life decisions. Ultimately, this book serves as a reminder of the profound impact that familial obligation and personal freedom have on the human experience.
