Excerpt from The Electric Brooder
The temperature of a body is due to the presence of heat in that body, and while there is but one kind of heat of which we have any knowledge, there are three known methods. (convection, conduction, and radiation) by which this heat. Can be transferred from one body to another.
Convection is the transfer of heat from the source to the absorber by storing the heat temporarily in a carrier substance, such as air or water, and then bodily moving this substance from the source to the cooler heat absorber. For example, a living room is heated by a furnace in the basement. The heat is generated in the basement, is stored temporarily in the air above the. Furnace, and is allowed or caused to move by convection '(air currents) to the living room.
