For our experiments, we have employed mainly the ear of the domestic rabbit, an organ in which no spontaneous new growth has ever been reported. Among the methods of mechan ical or chemical irritation chosen, the painting of coal-tar upon the inner surface of the ear has been the most efficacious in producing carcinoma.
