The leading features of my plan; its aim is to enable the student to acquire thorough control of the language he is studying in the shortest possible time, and with the least possible strain upon his patience and mental faculties. I have tried to avoid the slow, monotonous and befogging processes which consist in impregnating the pupil's mind with a number of grammatical rules which are generally of no practical value in the end.
