The author traces the legislative response to this problem, focusing on two key statutes: the 2 Geo. 2. c. 26. and the 15 Geo. 2. c. 13. The former extended the definition of larceny to include certain types of intangible property, while the latter created a new felony offense for the embezzlement of property by servants of the Bank of England. These statutes, the author argues, were not simply technical adjustments to the law, but reflected a broader shift in the understanding of property and crime in the 18th century.
