Excerpt from Experiments in Rice Culture at the Biggs Rice Field Station in California
If the seed or seedlings of water grass are completely covered by water it is (possible to smother this plant, whereas rice seed will ger minate an emerge in a normal way even when fully submerged. This reaction of the two plants is the basis for control methods which are being developed and used on foul land.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores how continuous submergence after broadcast seeding controls water grass in rice culture. As a sequel to the author's previous work on the topic, this book presents the results of experiments conducted from 1922 to 1924 at the Biggs Rice Field Station in California. These experiments investigated the effects of submergence depth, irrigation method, seed rate, and seedbed preparation on water grass control and rice yields. The author provides valuable insights into the development of effective rice cultivation techniques specific to California's Sacramento Valley, where water grass poses a significant challenge. The findings presented in this book can help rice growers optimize their production methods to achieve higher yields and better control of water grass.
