Excerpt from The Administration of Emergency Projects

When it was necessary to initiate control measures to prevent the Spread of a serious infestation of Spruce bark beetles which were destroying thousands of acres of valuable Engelmann Spruce timber in the forests of Colorado, Mr. Roberts organized and directed the project. In the 2-year period 1950 - 51, trees were treated individually, gallons of insecticide used, and 387 miles of road built.

Mr. Roberts retired at the end of 1951 from the position of Assistant Regional Forester in charge of range and wildlife management for the Northern Region of the Forest Service.
