Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a pioneering study into the relation between mental illness and artistic production, meticulously examining the paintings and writings of psychiatric patients at the Rilhafolles hospital in Portugal. The author argues that the art of the insane, often dismissed as mere curiosities, offers valuable insights into the nature and workings of mental illness. By studying the links between artistic expression and psychological disorders, this book sheds light on the complex relationship between creativity, madness, and society's perception of both. It also examines the influence of cultural and historical factors on the artistic output of the mentally ill, providing a comprehensive analysis of the artistic merit and cultural significance of their work. Through this investigation, the author challenges conventional notions of art and sanity, revealing the richness and diversity of human expression, even within the confines of mental illness. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9780260766151_0
