Excerpt from An Explanatory Defence of the Mass: Written in Irish Early in the Seventeenth Century
It cannot at present be ascertained in what year this work was written, but in all probability it was about 1615. This was the first of the three well-known prose works given to the world by Dr. Keating, and it being evidently intended for the instruction of the \people in general, the language used is very simple - though at the same time classical - and is perfectly intelligible to any person acquainted with the Irish language as spoken and written at present.
