On the other hand, it was found by a late investigation that of the total school time in fifty large cities of the United States was devoted to arithmetic. While this is by no means an exorbitant amount of time to give such an important subject as arithmetic, it is, at the same time, entirely sufficient to produce good results. Many instances may indeed be cited where satisfactory results have been obtained in less time.
