This book on Virginia's agricultural history from 1607 to the present day chronicles the history of farming within one of America's most prominent tobacco producing states. The author traces the development of the industry from its early days as a cash crop until the present era, where Virginia's tobacco farmers face increased regulation and decreasing demand. The author also provides an examination of how the tobacco industry has shaped the state and the nation over the centuries and the historical narrative is supported by over 100 images and dozens of sidebars that add depth and detail to the story.
