Excerpt from Treatise on Baptism: Including a Refutation of the Arguments Advanced on the Same Subject by Rev. G. Burns, D. D., Late Minister of Saint Andrew's Church, Saint John, N. B
In perusin the following pages, the reader will observe, that I have con ned m self as much as possible to the evi dence of scripture; and): except when necessity requ in replying to Dr. Burns on that question, have not led him into the maze of antiquity, My object has been to render im mersion evident as the only roper mode of baptism, and believers as the only proper subjects. In pursuing this plan with respect to the mode, I have endeavoured to ascertain the scriptural and real import of the verb baptize, and to support it with evidence as ample as this treatise would allow.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, the work of years devoted to research, carefully examines the New Testament to explore the mode and subjects of baptism. The author adeptly examines the etymology and meaning of the Greek verb, baptizein, to establish immersion by believers as the true mode of baptism. The author further debunks the practice of infant baptism by demonstrating that the evidence for it in the New Testament is wholly lacking, and even contradicted by the evidence in favor of believers' baptism. The author's analysis of the evidence establishes immersion and believers' baptism as the sole mode and subjects of baptism, which is essential to understanding its true nature.
