Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of nine beautiful, witty, and insightful poems written by the renowned Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield. Informed by an intimate understanding of the human experience, Lord Chesterfield uses his poetry to explore enduring themes of love, loss, morality, and patriotism. Lord Chesterfieldâs poetry is noted for its lyrical quality and its playful but candid observations of human nature. This book includes some of his most famous poems, such as âAdvice to a Lady in Autumn,â a gracefully aging woman, and âOn the Death of Mr. Aikman,â a moving elegy in which he ponders the transience of life. Chesterfield's work combines the highest ideals of the Enlightenment with the touch of a true Romantic, making this poetry an enduring and significant literary contribution.
