De facon a présenter en un même tableau le résumé de son histoire et la description som maire de son architecture. Aussi, aprés avoir dit quelques mots des origines de l'église chartraine. Je parlerai d'abord des substructions des anciennes basiliques qui servent de fondement au monument tout entier; puis j'étudierai la facade occidentale et les deux clochers du xu siècle. La seconde par tie de cette notice sera consacrée à la cathédrale actuelle, édifiée après l'incendie de 1194. Le trai terai enfin dans une troisième partie des mediti cations, agrandissements et tra 'aux de restaura tion exécutés tant a l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur du monurm*nt depuis le siècle jusqu'à nos jours.
