Excerpt from "Netsim" Network Simulator for the Ultracomputer
Configuration (cache, local memory, the precise memory management system used, and the performance parameters of the hardware. Moreover, a precise simulation of the communication network we intend to implement would be extremely time and Space consuming. We made several simplifying assumptions, and used some rough estimates on the relative performance of different hardware components of the system. Also, rather than tracing accurately each memory request through the network, we assume that memory requests are randomly distributed among memory modules, and perform a Monte Carlo simulation, based on the measured load on the network. This is expected to yield measurements similar to those one would obtain on a real network for.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the challenges of designing and simulating a novel communication network for a parallel computer system. The author presents a detailed probabilistic model for the network, considering factors such as queueing delays and bandwidth limitations. The book highlights the trade-offs involved in optimizing network performance, while addressing the practical constraints of hardware implementation. Through extensive simulations, the author provides insights into the expected behavior of the network under varying load conditions, offering valuable guidance for system designers seeking to balance performance and scalability. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
