This collection of poems is a combination of the recommendations of the Department of Public Instruction of the state of Pennsylvania and the recommendations of the Education Department of the state of New York.
There are for each grade many more selec tions than can be used in any one year. The Pennsylvania Course of Study recommends that at least one selection be memorized each month. The New York Syllabus recommends that at least six of the selections be memorized during the year.
