This classic text has long provided the student of architecture and the young practitioner with a readable guide to the profession, outlining an architect′s duties to client and contractor, the key aspects of running a building contract, and the essentials of management, finance and drawing office procedure.
Once again, the revised edition required substantial updating to reflect the increasing rate of change in the industry. The Eighth Edition now includes coverage of the Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996, and the Scheme, together with subsequent changes to the standard forms and the introduction of adjudication.
The Architects Act 1997 and new RIBA and ARB Codes are discussed, as is the 1999 Standard Form for the Appointment of an Architect. Further new sections cover the CDM Regulations, the Party Wall Act 1996 and changes in planning and Building Regulations. Reference is also made to PFI and partnering, and to project management as a separate role.
