Edmund Jerome McCarthy (born 1928) was an American marketing professor at Michigan State University and others such as the University of Notre Dame. He is the author of the influential book Basic Marketing. A Managerial Approach (now in its 17th edition with co-authors William D. Perreault, Jr. and Joseph P. Cannon). Professor E. Jerome McCarthy, in 1960, reduced the Marketing Mix concept to 4 elements: product, price, place and promotion. He received his PhD from the University of Minnesota in 1958.
