Au retour, il fut retenu prisonnier par le roi de Danemark mais, délivré et revenu en France, il avait continué d'y servir Charles IX dans la cinquième guerre de religion. L'edit de Beaulieu (6 mai 1576) venait d'y mettre fin et allait obliger Lansac à l'inaction, quand il vit dans l'entreprise de Larache une occasion de se distinguer avec honneur et profit.
