The information provided is based on 35 successful otter trawl surveys conducted in 1976 and 1977. The book is a valuable compilation of data from an initially unexplored area. Within, the author provides records of 41 different species of marine fish â" of which 3 were recorded for the first time in the Beaufort Sea. The book includes distribution records, life history information on widely distributed species and provides preliminary information on species or groups that were of particular importance to marine mammals, birds and other fishes in the region. It also summarises data on shrimps, crabs and other invertebrates collected during the surveys. Insight is provided into community composition and the relative significance of different invertebrate groups in the ecosystem. This book serves as a key resource for those studying the marine ecosystems of the Northeastern Chukchi and Western Beaufort Seas and provides essential context for future studies and comparisons.
