AT the requeft of many of my former pupils, I now publilh the heads of the Ledure: on Hirtory and general Policy, which I compofed for their uf'e when I was tutor at Warrington, and which I promifcd to do when I publifhed my Ejby on the firrt Princzloler of Government. I prefix to them an Ejay on a Cour/e of liberal Education fir civil and Mice life, which has been long out of print, and which will no more accompany my mi/z'ellaneour obfa'vationr relating to Education. It will be very evident that it has a much nearer connexion with thcfe lettures, which were compofed in purfuance of the ideas which I have there enlarged upon. The following circum~ fiance gave birth to them both.
