Excerpt from The King of Andorra
My son, you make me tired. You are the most fortunate fellow in town. The whole world is open to you to choose from its list of amusements; you have so much money you can't spend it; and yet you complain that your life is empty. I know what I'd do if I had the time and the means. Why don't you go some where and hunt big game?

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This engaging historical novel introduces the reader to the fictional country of Andorra during the 19th century. The inhabitants of Andorra have lived in peace for hundreds of years thanks to its isolated location, but all that is about to change with the arrival of three travelers from America. Major John Armin is a veteran of the British army, Francis Ottiwell is a wealthy and adventurous man, and Robert Belsham is a young lawyer. While enjoying lunch following a chance encounter with the Syndic of Andorra, the travelers learn of a threat to the country's tranquility. A Frenchman, Count Hector de Sallet, desires to purchase the land as a site for gambling establishments. The Syndic refuses, as he fears this would lead to the country being overrun by outsiders. The travelers, taken with the beauty of both the country and its people, decide to help the Syndic thwart the Frenchman's plan by proposing an alternative path to prosperity: developing the infrastructure and natural resources of Andorra.
