In parte hrijus operis jam publicata 48 genera enumerantur, unde colligi licet, nume1um eorum in opere integro fere ad 70' auctum fore, qui numerus sane magnus apparet. Hoc vero genus, veluti pleraque magna et naturalia, si dividitur, non in subgenera panca, sed in numerosa, parva, parum distincta, dissolvitur. Sic Psit tacus, Cuculus, Bucco, Alcedo, Trochilus, Columba, Strix etc. Etc. Ipse Picos in 30 Tribus, quae. Vim fere.subgenerum habent, divisi, nec in pau ciores redigere potni. Si vero Pici in subgenera, nominibus propriis appel landa, distribuendi essent vix'fieri potuit quin multo plura admitterentur qua de re cf. Synopsin subgenerum infra datam. Subgenera enim 42 ibi exposita, quodammodo naturalia et picturą formąque distincta, divi sioni \picorum sa'tisfacere nobis videntur. Dissectio autem generis, si placet, ad libitum continuari potest, nec ullus est limes. Quaelibet enim subdivisio generis, etiam plane artificialis, nomine donari et genus pro priam haberi potest, qui mos hodie praevalet.
