Fifty years ago the author of the lectures in this pamphlet, was an Iconoclast, stepping out in advance of of his fellows to deal heavy blows at the Dagon so long worshipped. To write and deliver such messages, and to utter such strong truths as these, required a degree of moral courage, in those days,-that we temperance men of more modern times can hardly appreciate.
