Les vingt Leçons que comprend ce Coi1rs ont été consa crées à l'étude du développement de la notion d'intégrale. Un historique complet n'aurait pu tenir en vingt Leçons; aussi, laissant de côté bien des résultats importants, je me suis tout d'abord limité à l'intégration des fonctions réelles d'une seule variable réelle le lecteur pourra rechercher si les résultats indiqués se prêtent facilement à des généralisa tions. De plus, parmi les nombreuses définitions qui ont été successivement proposées pour l'intégrale des fonctions réelles d'une variable réelle, je n'ai retenu que celles qu'il est, à mon avis, indispensable de connaître pour bien com prendre toutes les transformations qu'a reçues le problème d'intégration et pour saisir les rapports qu'il y a entre la notion d'aire, si simple en apparence, et certaines définitions analytiques de l'intégrale à aspects très compliqués.
