Die älteren Beschreibungen und Abbildungen, welche zur Unterscheidung der wen1gen Arten, die man Anfangs kannte, ausführlich genug waren, sind für die Anzahl, welche diese Gattung jetzt umfasst, zu kurz und ungenügend, auch die Abbildungen sind mangelhaft und bei manchen selbst das Genus kaum wieder zu erkennen, das sie vorstellen sollen, von vielen auch gar keine Abbildung vorhanden. Dazu sind noch die verschiedenen Arten in sehr vielen, zum Theile äusserst seltenen, theueren und auch sonst nur schwer zugänglichen Werken zerstreut angegeben, wodurch ihre Auffindung sehr beschwerlich, in manchen Fällen unmög lich wird; die grössten Bibliotheken in Europa enthalten nur theilweise die Werke, welche von Rissoiden handeln, und die vollständige Literatur aller zu erhalten, gelingt nur nach grossem Aufwande von Zeit undhlühe.
