The purpose, plan, and method of execution of the series, of which this forms the second volume, are sufliciently stated in the preface to the first volume. In preparing the present volume the matter has been somewhat more con densed; yet without omitting anything which, in the opinion of the writer, it is essential for the student to know. The subjects treated are among the most important, if they are not in fact the most important, subjects in the course of studies usually pursued by students at law. The works selected for condensation are well and favorably known to the profession; and the experience Of the writer as an in structor leads him to hope that his work will prove useful in economizing the time and lightening the labors of those for whose use it has been prepared, namely, students at law.
