Nous ne songeons pas à écrire ici une his toire des affaires d'arménie, ni même à en relater les principaux épisodes. Trop de pages éloquentes, tr0p de livres documentés, tr0p d'appels vibrants, ont été publiés par des hommes de toutes les opinions et de tous les partis, pour que nous puissions songer à redire, sans autorité, ce qui a été si bien exposé par les personnes qualifiées pour parler. Nous ne voulons, en ces pages, qu'appeler l'attention publique sur un point particulier de la ques tion le sort des survivants ou plutôt des survivantes.
Toutes les fois, en effet, que les Turcs ont eu recours à leur politique trop connue l'exter mination systématique d'une race comme moyen de domination ou de châtiment. Les massacres n'ont presque jamais porté que sur la portion masculine de la population. Après le passage des bandes d'assassins, on trouve des cadavres. Mâles, depuis l'enfance jusqu'à la vieillesse la plus avancée, mais tout à fait accidentellement des corps féminins y sont mêlés.
