Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores revolutions and the role that gardens played over the course of their history. From the birth of the Renaissance in a Medici garden to the present day, the author shows how ideas of revolution and reform were conceived, cultivated, and disseminated through gardens and landscapes. The author argues that some even served as testing grounds for new political and social ideas. By studying these gardens, this book uncovers surprising connections between garden design, political movements, and social change that shed light on the role of gardens as sites of transformative social processes, sources of inspiration, and symbols of revolution. It argues that gardens and the broader environmental humanities are essential to understanding revolutions and social movements and offers new insight into revolution itself. The book is extensively researched and beautifully illustrated throughout.
