The method of publication in numbers has afforded time to consult a large amount of writing on the different branches of the subject; the issue of the parts has extended over six years, during two of which cir cumstances with which I had nothing to do stopped all progress. The first number was preceded by a short advertisement, which I should desire to be retained as part of the work 5 for I have no opinion there expressed to alter or modify, nor have I found occasion 'to depart from the plan then contemplated.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book dives deep into the world of differential and integral calculus, exploring the concepts of limits, continuity, and differentiation in a way that challenges conventional approaches. The author takes a bold stance, rejecting the traditional reliance on series and algebraical expansions, instead grounding the entire subject in the rigorous theory of limits. This approach, while less common in its time, is presented as a more fundamental and precise approach to understanding calculus. The book delves into the practical applications of calculus in geometry and mechanics, offering a more comprehensive perspective that links these disciplines together. The author is acutely aware of the inherent complexities of the subject and addresses potential difficulties head-on, offering detailed explanations and even discussing the historical development of various approaches to these problems. The bookââ â¢s primary goal is to equip students with the tools and understanding to tackle the most challenging mathematical problems of the day, fostering a deeper appreciation of the intricate relationships between mathematics and the natural world. The authorââ â¢s commitment to a rigorous yet accessible approach makes this book a valuable resource for students and mathematicians alike, providing a fresh and thought-provoking perspective on this foundational subject.
