Excerpt from The Bolo Book
The songs in this book were written on a num ber of occasions, extending over several years. The Editors are not responsible for all of them; nor are they even able in all cases rightly to apportion the responsibility. Mr. M. B. Reckitt admits his authorship of two of the songs from The Homeland of Mystery - an all-red Revue in which he, as well as the Editor, sus tained an arduous part. In some of the other songs, responsibility would have to be appor tioned almost line by line - an essay in the Higher Criticism which the Editors do not propose to make. The pronunciation of proper names in foreign languages has been throughout treated with that liberty which is the Briton's heritage.
